ACTIVITIES of Antyoday Anath Ashram
ACHIEVEMENTS / DEVELOPMENTS of the Ashram till December 2008:
- Organised a Blood
donation camp.
- Organised two Eye
camps - the first with Rotary Club of Calcutta Renaissance and Sikar
Nagarik Parishad, the second with SNP again.
- Organised awareness
programmes against Child Labour and trafficking of women.
- Organised awareness
movements in an attempt to convince owners of illegal wine shops to close
down, with the help of Tamluk S.P.
- Ashram kids
participated in a Sit and Draw competition organised by SAMABETAN at
Rotary Sadan, they came FIRST! Their drawings were auctioned and two of
them fetched Rs. 15,000 and Rs. 20,000 each. SAMABETAN have invested the
money with whose interest an art school running at the Ashram can be
supported. The boarders as well as children of the villages attend the art
classes.
- The Ashram now has
SIX computers of which two were donated by our member Rtn. Prakash Nahata.
They have a printer and a basic internet connection. About 15 of the
Ashram's children are learning computers with the assistance of a local
lady, who knows the basics of computer applications.
- Running a Primary
school from Class 1 to Class 4, with 206 children (Ashram and villages).
Teachers are 14, who come from nearby villages. 35 of the Ashram's
children are in high schools (Class 5 and above), one in the locality and
another in the adjacent village.
- A second storey is
being constructed on top of the new building, with partial funding through
contributions from donors. There are currently no funds available for
constructing a permanent roof for the extension.
